Our philosophy resides in the importance of music for youth development. Our experience is proof of its value in teaching soft, interpersonal skills along with its technical implications. For this reason, our members have been performing in gigs all over Austin for over 4 years, for thousands of audience members, ranging from senior citizens to shop-goers, convention attendees, and more.
Fortunately, most school fine arts systems are provided ample funding for instruments and physical resources. However, the most crucial aspect of education, the teachers, are apparently scarce. At Canyon Vista, the middle school where the majority of our members graduated from, students in the orchestra are asked to find their own private lesson teachers. Although orchestral enrichment is an undeniable form of musical education, its ability to develop students musically is fruitless without supplemental lessons outside of the classroom. Just like how homework is the building block for learning in the classroom.
Through the funds we raise through performances and local business partnerships, we foster mutual learning through an education program: matching experienced high schoolers with underprivileged youth for music lessons. We also take on broader ventures in our city, partnering with institutions to set up after-school music programs to offer the power of music to the most deserving of children in our community.

Hi! My name is Peter Kim and I am the Founder and Executive Director of Unison Music. I am currently a senior at Westwood High School, where I am part of the Symphony Orchestra. I was also the 2023 Texas All-State Symphony Orchestra Assistant Concertmaster and the current Austin Youth Orchestra Concertmaster. As a lifelong musician, I've experienced firsthand the endless avenue of chamber music, orchestral music, and music in general as means of youth development. It is my honor to help underprivileged communities discover this beauty.
